The Bible Speaks
“We believe the Bible is more than a book of facts; its truths are meant to make a difference in our lives. God intends biblical truth to touch and transform every area of our lives. But everyone faces moments when the truths of the Bible don’t seem to make a difference. “Can the hope that the Bible offers really speak to my depression?” “Can the peace that the Bible promises really help my anxiety?” “Can the love that is revealed in the Bible change even my marriage?” At Renu-Hope, we believe that the Bible speaks into all of life’s problems, and in certain seasons of life each of us may need the careful thought and prayerful wisdom of another to help us make the connections that make a difference.
It’s About a Relationship
The Bible speaks to every area of our lives, but the Bible isn’t simply a recipe book for happiness. Ultimately, the Bible points us to a relationship with a person—Jesus Christ. The Bible was given to reveal Christ as the one who is able to make all things new. We believe real and lasting change occurs when people know themselves and their problems within a living and vital relationship with Jesus Christ.
The length of counseling can vary greatly, depending on the problems being addressed. Some of the most critical factors in effective counseling are coming with a positive attitude, setting concrete goals with your counselor, and working to stay focused on those goals.
People come with many different struggles. We believe that the Bible addressed all of life’s struggles. Thus, we apply a Christ-centered, Biblical worldview to all of life’s problems.
Examples of common struggles that we often address include grief, marriage and family issues, anxiety, depression, anger, pornography, eating disorders, identity issues, sexual abuse, and addictions.
No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the counselee. However, we take a few exceptions to this rule, which are:
Suspected child, dependent adult, or elder abuse. The counselor is required to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
If a counselee is threatening serious bodily harm to another person. The counselor is required to notify the police.
If a counselee intends to harm himself or herself, the counselor will make every effort to work with the individual to ensure his or her safety. However, since counseling is virtual, additional measures may need to be taken to keep them safe.
